The barriers to open science are also cultural; ., in the way academia currently rewards researchers. With a reputation solely based on journal articles and books, t oo little incentive is put on the careful documentation and sharing of science. Researchers must be rewarded for the transparency of their studies, and the efforts they put in quality control before subjecting their research to scrutiny. Ideally, they should also give up on the idea that they own the data they produce with the help of public funding. Only then will the open science vision be possible.
